Traffic Court

Traffic Court Matters

Traffic Court matters are administered through the Probate Court in Lanier County pursuant to applicable law.

Traffic court is held on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Arraignments at 9:00 a.m. and Bench Trials at 1:00 p.m. Lanier County Traffic court dockets may be viewable through:

Public docket listings may be visible; however, PDF file documents are not available online. To request traffic court records, please visit the Records Requests menu.

The Probate Court handles certain misdemeanor traffic offenses as provided by Georgia law, including O.C.G.A. § 40-13-1.

Each citation includes a court date. On that date, you have the right to appear, enter a plea, or contest the charge. Failure to appear may result in additional penalties.

Fine Schedule

The Court has adopted a fine schedule for eligible offenses. The listed amounts include the base fine, statutory surcharges, and court costs.

Not all offenses qualify for payment without a court appearance.

Payment of a fine constitutes a plea of guilty or nolo contendere, a waiver of trial, and entry of conviction.

The Court is not responsible for:

• Points assessed to your driver’s license
• Suspensions imposed by the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS)
• Insurance increases or CDL disqualifications

All defendants are assigned a court date at the time of citation issuance and have the right to contest their charge in court.

Failure to Appear & License Suspension

Failure to appear in court as required or failure to resolve your citation may result in the suspension of your driver’s license.

Pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 40-5-56, the Court may notify the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) if you fail to appear or comply with the terms of your citation. DDS may then suspend your driver’s license until the matter is resolved.

Important Information

• The Court reports failures to appear or comply to DDS
• DDS—not the Court—issues and controls license suspensions
• Resolving your citation does not automatically reinstate your license
• You must complete all DDS reinstatement requirements

Reengagement with the Court (FTA Reset)

If your license has been suspended due to a failure to appear, you may be eligible to reengage with the Court to have your case placed back on the calendar.

In appropriate cases, the Court may issue a release of the suspension (Form 912) to DDS once you have reengaged and your case is scheduled for further proceedings.

• This process is generally available for an initial failure to appear
• Additional failures to appear may be handled at the discretion of the Court
• Submission or appearance does not guarantee release
